Ireland - North Coast Scenic Drive

As we drove towards Fairhead, the northeastern corner of Ireland, we passed lovely green pastures and lakes with odd shaped islands in the middle of them. It was a very picturesque drive. We found out later that there are over a thousand of these small man-made islands, called a 'crannog', throughout Ireland. They would have had a dwelling on them and were created for defensive purposes. Some have been dated to the middle ages (1200-600 BC).
